Mission 2 Mississippi
Set To Go in Mid-October
$1.6M Needed for Project
Volunteers Needed in MS
Families Selected for Homes
Oct. 03 – Now dubbed "Mission 2 Mississippi," the project to build 8 homes in Waveland, MS organized by Wayland to Waveland Hurricane Katrina Relief is nearly ready to launch – crews are on the ground making final preparations. Included this week are the three live video cameras to monitor progress. They have been installed and video is coming thru. Soon it will be available right here!
The group of eight builders, headed by Ken Vona Construction of Waltham, will be on the ground in Mississippi starting October 15.
Meanwhile, the daunting task of fundraising has begun with nearly a half million of the $1.6 million already in the bank. It's a long way to go, though!
Donations (and volunteers) are welcome from all over the country – and certainly from the Greater Boston region where many of the builders, contractors and subcontractors come from.
The W2W steering committee and the builders all have been asked if people from outside of Wayland can participate.... YES, OF COURSE! Please... this is a wide-area effort in support of this small community on the Gulf Coast. Donations are needed as well as volunteers... both around the Boston area as well as on the ground in Waveland.
Please see the information here on the Web site, but also feel free to call ANY member of the Steering Committee for the complete story. Volunteers will have to pay their own way.... airfare, busfare, hotel, and meals (although some food will be provided during the work day on site).

The first photo from the live video camera at Combel shows Steering Committee Members Kathie Steinberg, Peter Bachman, Cindy Lombardo and Site Coordinator Ryan Kalberkamp

Site Coordinator Ryan Kalberkamp took this photo of the piers on two lots at Combel Ave that serve as foundations for the houses to be built starting in October. It's similar to the view from the video cameras as he's standing on a trailer by the pole for the video cam.
