Lots Purchased, Being Cleared
for Wayland to Waveland Project
408 Skilled Labor Slots Nearly Filled
For 14 weeks of Projects Starting In October
Townspeople Sought As On Site Volunteers
July 24 – Four of the eight lots on which Wayland to Waveland will build homes this fall are now owned by the local group in Waveland and work has begun to prepare them construction in October. Four more properties are near closing.
Bay St. Louis-based Lagniappe, a Presbyterian church group, is procurring the eight properties for the eight needy and qualified families. Five of these families have been selected and are presented on the group’s Web site www.waylandtowaveland.org. These photos of are the lots on Combel Ave. in Waveland, MS being cleared. W2W is working with project manager Ryan Kalberkamp on the ground in Waveland to direct the operations. He shot these photos and reports, "I just wanted to send you some pictures of the lots being cleared. I left approximately 15 feet of trees in between each house and tried to save as many trees in the yard as possible, but most of the good trees I intended to leave ended up being inside the footprint of the house. The contractor I hired to do the dirt work is going to start in the morning. Hope y'all are getting as excited as I am."
OK Wayland, the professionals have stepped up – signed up literally– for most of the 408 skilled worker slots during the 14-week project to build eight homes in Waveland Mississippi. Now it’s time for volunteers to register to be on site during the October to February project. On-site volunteers will be needed continuously from October into February to ensure we get all the tasks done. During a similar effort last fall, approximately 60 volunteers, including high school students, experienced the satisfaction of going to Waveland and building much-needed homes for three very grateful families!
