Wayland To Waveland Advances
Work on Ms. Melanie’s House;
Gets Ms. Hazel Moved In
April 9 – Again the Wayland to Waveland (W2W) Hurricane Katrina Relief group has made a major impact on life in the small coastal city it has adopted.
Peter Bachman, owner of Custom Designs of Wayland, last week (April 1-7) headed a group in Waveland to significantly advance work on the house the group raised for Ms. Melanie Keretas from the ground up in October.
Work completed last week included installing all the plumbing and electrical wiring inside Ms. Melanie’s house. The group also installed the plank siding on the entire outside of the house, and decking for the sweeping porches surrounding the house.
The crew cleaned up the site on the last day to get ready for Melanie to continue her building process which includes insulation and drywall installation that will begin next week on the inside.
The W2W group also finished moving Ms. Hazel into her house across the street from Ms. Melanie’s. She is now completely out of her little FEMA trailer that has been home for more than 18 months.
Thanks to the generosity of Wayland families, who fulfilled wishes from the "Virtual House Shower" held during the last month, Ms. Hazel has most of her kitchen tools, bedding and bathroom towels and was busy unpacking. She is so grateful to everyone who helped her begin to make the transition from the cramped trailer into her renovated home.
The Romanow family of Wayland even sent furniture down on Peter Bachman's truck so that Ms. Hazel would really feel "at home." It took the whole week to completely move her in, but by Saturday afternoon, the trailer was empty.
Wayland to Waveland will continue to help families as they transition from their trailers into their homes.

This was their choice for a honeymoon having given up a cruise to help in the Gulf Coast area. Their search on the internet for a worthy, challenging project magically brought them to the Wayland to Waveland Web site.
