Subject: Wayland to Waveland Thank You
To all the volunteers,
I’d like to send you all individual emails, but that’s not going to happen! ;-) I wanted to thank all of you for your tremendous efforts in Waveland, MS. Myself and my crew could not have done all that we did without you. What we accomplished was truly remarkable! To think that a devoted Wayland to Waveland Committee, 26 eager volunteers, 5 carpenters and 2 plumbers, not to mention, the helping hands of Melanie’s family were able to do what we did is an inspiration to all of those who want to go down to the Gulf coast to help out.
Just to give you a small recap of what you did:
In 10 days, you moved or lifted:
- 35 windows
- 4 doors
- 7,000 linear feet of 2x12 lumber
- 4,000 linear feet of 2x10 lumber
- 3,000 linear feet of 2x8 lumber
- 260 sheets of plywood
- 600 2x4 studs
- 160 bundles of roofing shingles
- 30 rolls of tar paper
- 22,000 nails
And most importantly,
installed more than 600 hangers and hurricane braces accompanied by some 12,000 nails!
All of this is an amazing feat! After we left on Monday, we were quickly followed by a large contingent of Amish who finished the roof on both Ms. Hazel’s house and Melanie’s. Ms. Hazel’s is a sunset red and Melanie’s is a forest green. She says you can see it from the railroad tracks! The Amish are coming back this Thursday, Nov. 2nd to finish up the final remnants of framing at Melanie’s house.
My guys had a fantastic time and appreciated your kindness and generosity. I look forward to the opportunity of working with all you guys again; you have left me with a lot of great memories! Get the word out so that we can do this again, possibly in the spring.
Thanks for all your help! Best wishes in the upcoming Holiday Season.
Regards,
Pete Bachman
