September 14, 2006 -- Eight Wayland High School students have signed up so far for the first wave of Wayland-to-Waveland relief next month, according to Tom Fay of the steering committee.

Fay presented plans for the two waves to residents in an information meeting Wednesday at the Wayland Library. A couple of dozen people, including a few out of town guests attended for an overview of the status of Waveland and hear first-hand the projects that are planned for the second wave of relief that will rebuild three homes in Waveland.
The high school student trip will head south Friday afternoon October 6 and return in the evening on Monday October 9. The adult trip will run from October 12 thru the 26th.
Local builder Peter Bachman was present the other night to explain the extent of the three projects. And the three couldn’t be more different. They will use all the skills and determination of Wayland residents to complete in just a short two weeks. Of course, the efforts there will only be a beginning, but a tremendous beginning for the people in Waveland who are struggling to find skilled labor and materials to carry on projects.
Help Needed
To volunteer for the waves of relief, contact any Wayland to Waveland steering committee member listed on the Web site. Skills of all kinds are needed and welcome.
