September 11 – Wayland Town Crier 9/11/07: Waveland mayor visits and thanks Wayland. "The words 'Thank you' just don't quite express how we feel," said Waveland's mayor Tommy Longo. Wayland has proven it's "in for the long haul" as Wayland to Waveland undertakes a new effort to build eight new homes in Waveland.

July, 2006 – A wave of Wayland support is going to Waveland, Mississippi, Wayland’s sister community, this October with an ambitious effort to rebuild three homes ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. July 19, 2006 -- Email from Kathy Pinn on the state of the City of Waveland.

June 2006 – This spring, the book fairs held at our three elementary schools and the middle school yielded a total of $3,800 to our PTOs, and a total of 635 books to Waveland, MS schools. These books are ones requested by Waveland teachers (in the form of classroom sets, e.g. 45 copies of Because of Winn Dixie) and will be shipped there directly by Scholastic. It's a real win-win for Wayland and Waveland!

We Shall Return--Waveland MS

 

Wayland has formed the Hurricane Relief Steering Committee to help mobilize our congregations, schools, scouts, veterans, civic groups, businesses, elected officials, key town employees and Wayland residents.  The Wayland Selectmen have passed a resolution recognizing and supporting this effort.
