Letters from the Families
Destiny & Tristan Tullos
From My Heart to Yours:
A little bit about me, my name is Destiny Tullos and I have a handsome, bright and amazing son named Tristan. Tristan, my grandmother and my brother are my life. I have been working very hard to make a good life for my son and myself. I am a mother, a student, a Sonic carhop, a bartender and to hear my friends talk I‘m a pretty amazing friend. I bet all of you have meet some extraordinary people in the short time you have been here.I know that I certainly have been blessed by each and every volunteer that has given their time to help change our lives forever. It has been a difficult two years following Katrina and from day one America has embraced us with love and support. For that I am eternally grateful.
After surviving the devastation of Katrina, I thought whew we made it through the worst of the worst. We lost our home and replaceable material items but our family was alive and well. Then on February 22, 2006, the Lord called the greatest man that had ever walked on the face of my earth home, my Dad. Once again I felt completely lost and devastated. As a single mother I began to wonder what the Lord had in store for me and how was I supposed to accomplish it without my best friend by my side. I had worked so hard for so long and I started to question whether or not He would notice my efforts. I now know that not only did He notice, He sent me each and everyone of you to help me provide a home and a better life for my son and myself. I also believe there are Angels among us to guide us with a life of love and I know my Angel, my Dad will always guide me and with him and the Lord I will never be alone. I will never forget the blessings I have received and plan to pass the kindness and compassion I have been shown on to my son. I hope that he will one day understand how the kindness of strangers can change a person or family’s life forever!
My days, weeks, year and now the rest of my life has been brightened by the compassion and generosity of not only the people of Boston, but the people of America as well. When I received the phone call from Cindy informing me that I was chosen to be one of the lucky recipients, I was overwhelmed with joy. I am so deeply touched that people who have never met me before could be so caring and giving to me as if they have know me all of my life. Additionally, I have had the awesome pleasure of meeting and interacting with the volunteers. It’s a touching inspiration to see the sectioned off lots of dirt become homes for families like mine. Thank you and God Bless you.
