Wayland to Waveland’s
‘Mission to Mississippi’
Day 44 -- Start Week 7

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 28, 2007 – WAVELAND, MA

Hi everyone,
I am back in Waveland after a 3-week hiatus. I am blown away by the beauty of our homes and the progress made during the 3 weeks I have not been here. The electrical and plumbing look fantastic and the decking and siding are gorgeous.

Five of the drywallers drove down and I met them on Monday afternoon and showed them the sites. If the screws had been on site they would have started work. The other 7 drywallers arrived Tuesday and as of darkness today the 4 houses on Combel St. are totally boarded and 3 are taped and mudded.

drywallingWe have 3 father-and-son teams and it is a privilege to watch them work together--they have great rhythm and I marvel at their comraderie working together as a family. Kieran, Michael, GrahamJand John all work with accuracy and speed. Rob Delaney can hang a ceiling in record time and he started work on the ceilings on Maple with Alvaro's help. Every room now has shape and it is easy to visualize the ayout of each room. I know the families will be comfortable!

I had the opportunity to sit next to a high end builder from this area on my last trip down here who gave me his card in case we needed anything. We needed carpenters to install the attic steps and 3 sliders so the drywallers could finish their work. I called Emerson Logo today and asked if he had carpenters we could employ for one or two days work. He returned my call immediately and is sending 2 skilled carpenters tomorrow. When I reminded him that we would pay for their time, he said it "was on him" as his contribution to our project. Again, I am humbled by a stranger's willingness to participate in helping our families and supporting Mission to Mississippi.

The generosity of everyone connected to this project is truly appreciated by us all. Destiny and her son Tristan helped scrap out the houses this afternoon. It is a heavy and messy job, but the guys working made Tristan help hammer and invited Destiny to join us for dinner. Most of the crew along with Ryan and Jordan from Lagniappe dined at Jack's in Bay St. Louis tonight. Tristan entertained everyone and he listened to 10 "fathers" telling him to eat one more bite!!!

Rose had coffee going this morning for the crew and as it was in the high 40's it was a welcome and warm gesture. Tomorrow most everyone moves to Maple and Taranto St. to begin boarding, witht he tapers following soon after. Guy Milanazzo , from KVC is our project manager and has kept us motivated and working with his great sense of humor and funny jokes. Another wonderful crew adding another piece to this project.

Thank you to all for your continued support.
Cindy
