Wayland to Waveland’s
‘Mission to Mississippi’
Day 14 -- Week 2

MONDAY, OCT. 29, 2007 – WAVELAND, MA

From Cindy Lombardo, W2W Co-chair

It is hard to believe that week 2 is over and that tomorrow these incredible 24 framers will leave ready for the 16 roofers and 22 exterior trim team to arrive.

So much was accomplished this week, due to the hard work and great weather. Today the Quality Framing crew framed an addition on one of our homes on Combel St. We added a fourth bedroom and sitting area off the back with a hallway connecting them to the rest of the house. All in one day and without complaining! We think we might have a larger family and thought we should be able to accomodate them.

The sites are staged and ready for next week. Most of the work will be on Combel Street at least for Tuesday -Thursday so watch how fast the roofs go on. We are going to help one of the Combel St. neighbors roof his house so his family of 4 kids (2 sets of twins) can move out of their FEMA trailer.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to participate in an Arts Festival in Bay St. Louis. It was open studio weekend for the many artists residing here. Many are famous and show their work at shows all over the country. They all work in different mediums and I could have bought something from all of them. Before the storm, this area was considered one of the top 5 communities for artists to live. One woman makes jewelry for the stars. She is the exclusive designer for "Desperate Housewives" and a few soap operas. Many of the artists are focusing on using materials found after Hurricane Katrina.

I spent the afternoon with Kathy Pinn and her husband, Ron who showed me a slice of life that has returned and is celebrating. It was a welcome change from the debris, dust and devastation. All thanked Mission to Mississippi for coming down here to help. Many could not believe the scope of the project. Congratulations to everyone.

I think the Boston Globe is doing a follow up piece this weekend on M2M. Maybe more people will participate by donating funds and volunteering thier time. It is definitely worth it. Lonnie Swarz came in today to represent Wayland to Waveland with logistics and encouragement.

NOTE FROM WAYLAND -- we taped a half-hour TV "special" for WAYCAM (Ch. 9) today which will air on Sat. Nov. 3rd at 1 and 7 pm! Watch it!!!!!
