Wayland to Waveland’s
‘Mission to Mississippi’
Day 10 -- Week 2
THURSDAY, OCT. 25, 2007 – WAVELAND, MA
From Cindy Lombardo, W2W Co-chair
Hi everyone,
Today was another incredible day. We started with 2 out of 4 homes framed, and today the 3rd house is framed with the 4th one begun.
The weather was cool (65 degrees) but dry. The crew worked hard. The team on Taranto are the fastest framers thanks to Week 1's framers who framed the decking. This group totally builds its walls, Tyvek, trim and all and then raises the wall. The other crew frames the inside walls before the plywood goes on the roof.
Rose Luciano opened the sites this morning and will make the coffee from now on. She is also willing to close down the sites when needed. As usual, lunch was the highlight of the day. How about corned beef on rye? Due to the cooler weather, more coffee is being consumed and less water.
Ken (Vona, lead builder of the 8) and I toured Waveland Mayor Tommy Longo's house and met with the coordinator to see if we could help Mayor Longo move in a little faster. I hope we have time in the coming weeks to help.
Tonight, Ken and I met the 7 families before they went to a "new homeowners" class. Each one thanked Ken and me for changing their lives and allowing them to move on. One said " all I want is to mow my lawn and live a normal life."
I will send a group photo of the families tomorrow.
Yea Red Sox on their win.
Cindy
