Wayland to Waveland’s
‘Mission to Mississippi’
Day 9 -- Week 2
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 24, 2007 – WAVELAND, MA
From Cindy Lombardo, W2W Co-chair
Hi everyone,
IThe first week’s crew left Tuesday and the second week of framers arrived on time and raring to frame. We arrived on Maple St. and Taranto St. around noon, and the crews unpacked their tools and began work. The decking on the four homes were ready and by 3 pm the walls were up and another 2 homes were well on their way. Everyone stopped work around 6 pm and most ate and went to bed early. My son, David arrived after driving down the Custom Designs truck (which will remain here for the duration of the project) and was up and raring to work at 6:15 this morning.
The 23 framers worked hard all day. Both homes are almost ready for windows and the projection is that the crews will be looking to help other families by the end of the weekend. Again, an amazing tribute to their work ethics.
The weather today was chilly. The temperature hovered around 55 and more coffee than water was consumed. This morning I represented W2W and Mission to Mississippi at Ms. Hazel’s house (our previous project) for a joint press conference with Rebuilding Together. Their 93 New England volunteers were impressed with our work and many hoped others from the Boston area would come down to volunteer. Ms. Hazel told her story of survival and how much she owed our group. It was very emotional.
John Shaw, Myra Snyder and Nancy Demling also worked har to support the workers. Myra and Nancy were my shoppers running errands and looking for materials. John joined Ken and crew working at Combel Street staging the site for next week’s roofers and carpenters. The ground here is still wet and very muddy.
Tomorrow is supposed to warm up and there is no rain in the forecast. Kathie Steinberg and Peter Bachman left today. This project could not have happened without their organizational skills and humor. Peter kept us all working at 100% and Kathie made sure systems are in place for the remainder of the project.
Thanks and tune in tomorrow.
Cindy

Team Lift

Walls rising from the muuuuudddd.....

You can see the interior walls taking shape as siding gets applied.

Not sure why a saws-all is needed here.... but, alas, your Webmaster is not a builder.

True (Boston Red Sox) team spirit lives in Waveland

Is he really hugging a Yankees fan... er, a Braves fan, er, a Houston fan... who do they pull for down there?

Ready for roofing!!!!
