Wayland to Waveland’s
‘Mission to Mississippi’
Day 4

FRIDAY, OCT. 19, 2007 – WAVELAND, MA

From Cindy Lombardo, W2W Co-chair

Hi everyone,

Today was a pleasant change from the horrible weather of yesterday. From tornado warnings and so many puddles to a sunny, dry day. All 4 houses (at Combel St.) are framed, roofed and the front decks are almost finished. I worked on the inside of one house putting up walls, headers and chalking walls. It was a great change for me from my full-time logistics coordinating.

Lyn, Ann and Cathy have been helpful in helping us set up sites 3 and 4 for next week's crews. Maple and Taranto Streets are very muddy with knee-deep puddles. Hopefully in the next few days they will dry out.

Again, I am amazed at how quickly these professionals work. After 3 1/2 days you can see that our work has meaning. 3 of our families have been to the site. Destiny came today, a little distracting in her outfit, but her enthusiasm for the project is evident. She brought some Gatorade to the crews. Kenny C. came and is sending pizza over on Sunday. John Harris came over after work and all are coming to help this weekend.

One of our families, the Blossoms, have had to drop out. Steve received a FEMA grant for his schooling and the family has to move to Huntsville, Alabama. It is unfortunate, as we all fell in love with Autumn, but we wish them the best. After all, our goal is to help families return to a normal life and Steve has a great opportunity. They will be around to help until Thanksgiving and are drafting a"thank you letter" to us for all we have done.

The guys love the lunches which are delivered fresh every day by Kitty, Suzanne and Nancy. They are a huge asset to this team. We are spending lots of money on water and Gatorade as we keep everyone hydrated. I am trying to negotiate with the local water company, Walmart and others to buy pallets of water cheap. Our estimate of 3500 cases is too low if this week is any indication.

Thank you all for your continued support and keep spreading the word. Please check out www.missiontomississippi.org DAILY so you can watch the progress.

Cindy
